Bridge Information
The Tittabawassee River Bridge is a Pratt through truss bridge that was built by the Pere Marquette Railroad in 1912. It was part of the Ludington Division, which traveled from Saginaw to Ludington, Michigan. This line was closed in 1991 but was reopened as part of the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail in 1995.
The Pere Marquette (PM) Railroad was incorporated in 1899 and began operation on January 1, 1990. It was formed by merging three Michigan- based railroad companies: Flint & Pere Marquette Railroad (F&PM), Detroit, Grand Rapids & Western Railroad (DGR&W), and Chicago & West Michigan Railway (C&WM). The company sold a few times but was ultimately merged with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) in 1946 and was absorbed in CSX in 1948. At this point, some of the tracks (including this bridge) have been closed, but many of the divisions are still operational.
