Bridge Information
The St. Elmo W. Acosta Bridge, commonly called the Acosta Bridge, is a segmental box girder bridge in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. It carries 6 vehicular lanes, 2 pedestrian walkways, and 2 tracks for the skyway train.
The original bridge at this location was the Jacksonville St. Johns River Bridge which opened in 1921. It was renamed the St. Elmo W. Acosta Bridge in 1949 and was demolished in 1991. It was a vertical lift bridge of similar design to the nearby John T. Alsop Jr. Bridge.
