Bridge Information

The Lake Monroe Bridge was built in 1934 and was the first electrically operated swing bridge in the state. It is a warren through truss bridge that was originally 627-feet-long with a 235-foot-long swing span. It was constructed to replace a wooden swing bridge that was manually operated

The bridge was replaced with the Bill Benedict Bridge in 1994. It was closed, and much of the bridge was demolished. However, the swing span was preserved, moved to the south approach, and converted to a fishing pier.
